Terms of Service
1. What Tipr is
Tipr ("we", "us") is a cashless tipping and payments platform. Businesses and individuals create a tip page for their team or for themselves; customers open that page (typically by tapping an NFC chip or scanning a QR code), choose a staff member where there is a team, and send a voluntary tip by card, Apple Pay, or Google Pay. An individual can instead create a pay page (a "payments account"), where a client pays them for their work the same way. By using Tipr — as a business owner, staff member, payments-account holder, tipper, or paying client — you agree to these terms.
2. Accounts
Business owners create an account for their business and can invite staff. Staff join via an invite link and manage their own account. You're responsible for keeping your login credentials secure and for all activity under your account. You must be at least 18 to create an account.
3. Payments, fees, and payouts
- All payments are processed by Stripe. Tipr never stores your card details.
- Tip recipients keep 100% of the tip amount. The customer sending a tip pays a service fee on top of the tip at checkout, which covers Tipr's 5% platform fee and standard Stripe processing fees (currently 2.9% + $0.30 per transaction). The fee is shown to the customer before they pay.
- A payments account (a "pay page") works the same way for payments a client makes to you for your work: you keep 100% of the amount, and the client pays a service fee on top at checkout covering Tipr's 2% platform fee and Stripe's processing fees. A payment made through a pay page is a payment to you for the goods or services you provide; you are responsible for providing them, and for any refund you agree with your client. Tipr is not a party to that agreement. Payments accounts are for your own business or professional work, not for sending money between friends.
- Staff receive payouts through Stripe Connect. Completing Stripe's identity and bank verification is required before a person can receive tips or payments at all: until it is finished they do not appear on the business's page and nothing can be sent to them. This means a tip or payment always has a verified account to be paid into. One person who holds both a tipping account and a payments account may link the two to a single Stripe account from the Payouts card.
- The minimum tip or payment is $3 and the maximum is $500 per transaction.
4. Tips are voluntary and final; payments are between you and your client
Tips are voluntary payments from a customer to a service worker. They are not payment for goods and are generally non-refundable. A payment made through a pay page is different: it is a payment for goods or services between the client and the payments-account holder, who is responsible for providing what was paid for. Refunds of payments are agreed between those two; Tipr can help process a refund on request but is not a party to the sale. If you believe any tip or payment was made in error or without authorization, contact us at hello@usetipr.com and we'll work with Stripe to review it. Disputed tips or payments (chargebacks) may be deducted from the recipient's future payouts along with any dispute fees charged by Stripe.
5. Taxes
Tips and payments are income to the person receiving them. Recipients are responsible for reporting and paying any applicable taxes. Where required, Stripe issues tax forms (such as a 1099-K) directly to connected account holders.
6. Acceptable use
You may only use Tipr to process genuine tips and, on a pay page, genuine payments for goods or services you yourself provide. You may not use it to send money between friends or family, to collect payments on behalf of someone else, to launder money, to evade taxes, or for anything unlawful. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms or that Stripe flags for risk. Businesses are responsible for ensuring their use of tipping complies with applicable labor laws.
7. The service is provided "as is"
We work hard to keep Tipr fast and available, but the service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Tipr's total liability for any claim arising out of the service is limited to the platform fees you paid us in the three months before the claim arose.
8. Changes and termination
You can stop using Tipr and close your account at any time. We may update these terms; if we make material changes we'll post the new version here with an updated date, and continued use of the service means you accept them.
